§ MR. LONSDALEI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will state the result of the warning recently given to certain newspapers against publishing the intimidatory resolutions of the United Irish League branches; what proceedings he intends to take within the ordinary law against the proprietors of newspapers who continue to publish these resolutions; and whether he will take action also against the organisations who pass the resolutions and are responsible for the intimidation which is practised.
§ MR. BIRRELLIt is not yet possible to estimate the results of the warnings which have been given. It would be neither possible nor desirable to say what proceedings may in certain events become necessary. Each case will be 291 considered upon its merits. Prosecutions will be instituted in all cases in which evidence of a criminal offence is forthcoming.
