§ MR. WHITBREAD (Huntingdonshire, Huntingdon)To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in the case of licences for which compensation has been awarded by the Commissioners of Inland Revenue under the Licensing Act, 1904, since the date of 1st August, 1906, he can give the 248 total amount so awarded, the total of the Schedule A assessments of the houses in question, and the estimated value of the same houses after the extinction of the licences.
(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) Since 1st August, 1906, the Commissioners of Inland Revenue have determined awards of compensation to an aggregate amount of £671,795, in the case of 742 houses. The total of the Schedule A assessments of these houses when licensed was £29,258, and their total annual value unlicensed was £14,742, as estimated by the Inland Revenue for compensation purposes, that is to say, the estimated annual value of the houses unlicensed amounted to about 50 per cent. of their Schedule A value with licences. These figures may be compared with those given in reply to a previous Question as the houses in respect of which the Commissioners awarded compensation for the years 1905 and 1906, showing (exclusive of premises which have been unoccupied) a total Schedule A assessment, with licences, of £20,145, and an actual Schedule A assessment, without licences, of £14,442, or about 72 per cent. of the value with licences.
