SUMMERBELLI beg to ask the Prime Minister whether, in the event of a locality where no distress committee is in existence setting up a voluntary committee with a scheme of work for the unemployed, an application from such a committee for a grant from the central fund will be favourably considered.
§ THE PRIME MINISTER AND FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. ASQUITH,) Fifeshire, E.The grant is voted for contributions in aid of expenses under the Unemployed Workmen Act. Consequently payments out of it can only be made to central bodies and distress committees under the Act. A voluntary committee would not come within the terms of the Vote.
