HC Deb 10 November 1908 vol 196 cc56-7
MR. CLYNES (Manchester, N.E.)

I beg to ask the Prime Minister whether he can state when the Report on Afforestation of the Coast Erosion Commission will be presented; and whether, in the event of schemes of work being recommended, immediate action can be taken by the departments concerned to employ men now out of work.

THE PRIME MINISTER AND FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. ASQUITH,) Fifeshire, E.

As I informed my hon. friend the Member for Tottenham last week, the Royal Commission hope to report on the question of afforestation early next year, and no definite time can yet be fixed, for the issue of their Report on Coast Erosion. The Answer to the second part of the Question must depend on the nature of the recommendations of the Commission; but the hon. Member may be assured that the Government will use every effort to give effect to any practicable schemes that may be put before them.
