§ MR. COURTHOPETo ask the Secretary of State for War if he will state which, if any, of the agricultural tenants of the proposed extension of the artillery ranges on Salisbury Plain received formal notice to quit, from or on behalf of the War Office, on or before Michaelmas of this year.
(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) In some cases owners with whom the War Office has been in negotiation have by agreement with the War Office given notice to their tenants to quit at Michaelmas, 1909, but, as I have already explained to the House, the tenants will not be disturbed until the beginning of June, 1910. As the negotiations for purchase are still pending, and the matter is at present one which concerns the owners and their tenants, it is not considered that any more specific information can properly be given.
