HC Deb 04 November 1908 vol 195 c1204
SIR GILBERT PARKER

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies how much of the Transvaal Loan of £5,000,000 has been issued, in what form the issue has been made, and to what objects the money has been allocated.

COLONEL SEELY

£1,000,000 of Transvaal Treasury Bills due 1st February, 1909, have, with the approval of the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, been issued. £750,000 has been paid to the Transvaal Land and Agricultural Bank, and small sums have been spent on agricultural settlement and on irrigation. Expenditure is, I understand, also contemplated on railways.

SIR GILBERT PARKER

Can the hon. Gentleman say when the new issue will be made? Will it be within the next six months?

COLONEL SEELY

I cannot say off-hand.
