HC Deb 04 November 1908 vol 195 c1206
MR. PIKE PEASE (Darlington)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he can state the number of ratepayers summoned for their rates in England and Wales and the number who suffered imprisonment for non-payment, differentiating between the provinces and London for the year ending 1907.

*THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL, Yorkshire, Cleveland)

I beg to answer this Question on behalf of my right hon. friend. These figures are not available, and even if it were possible to get accurate returns, their collection would, the Secretary of State fears, give the local authorities more trouble than the result would justify.
