Member for Mid Derby, as Chairman of the Kitchen Committee, whether visitors to the House of Commons Strangers' Smoking Room, who are not Members of the House, are allowed to pay for refreshments served to them; and whether this is done with his cognisance and authority.
§ SIR JAMES JACOBY (Derbyshire, Mid)The Kitchen Committee have had this matter under consideration. Visitors are not allowed to pay for refreshments served in the Strangers' Smoking Room, and the waiters have stict orders to take payments from Members only. Notices to this effect are on the walls of the room. The Committee have decided to enforce this regulation, and if the hon. Member is able to inform me of any breach of the rule, immediate steps will be taken to prevent its recurrence.
