HC Deb 02 November 1908 vol 195 c789
MR. MONTAGU (Cambridgeshire, Chesterton)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he has issued a circular to local authorities in which he limits his sanction for loans for buildings under the Small Holdings Act of last year to thirty years.

MR. JOHN BURNS

The Answer is in the negative. The maximum period for loans in respect of buildings which the Act permits is fifty years; and this period I am prepared to allow whore the probable life of the building and the other circumstances of the case admit of my doing so.

*MR. MONTAGU

Has the right hon. Gentleman up till now refused any loans for fifty years under this Act?

MR. JOHN BURNS

No. The terms are eighty years for land and fifty years for buildings.
