HC Deb 02 November 1908 vol 195 c771
DR. RUTHERFORD (Middlesex, Brentford)

I beg to ask the Prime Minister whether His Majesty's Government will recommend His Majesty the King to declare an amnesty for political prisoners in India, with a view to allaying the widespread and growing discontent and of affording any reform scheme a better chance of success.

THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. BUCHANAN,) Perthshire, E.

As the hon. Member will see from His Majesty's gracious message which the Viceroy has delivered to-day, remissions and reductions of sentences have been ordered. Political prisoners will not be treated in any way as a special class.
