HC Deb 02 November 1908 vol 195 c746
MR. MACKARNESS

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he will state on what grounds five applications by local authorities for restriction of motor traffic on special roads have been refused by the Local Government Board, and for what reasons twelve applications were withdrawn or dropped.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) The particulars which my hon. friend requires will be found in the following statement:—Applications made to the Local Government Board under Section 8 of the Motor Car Act, 1903, for regulations prohibiting or restricting motor-car traffic on certain roads.

(Note.—Regulations under this section can only be made in respect of a highway which does not exceed 16 ft. in width, or on which ordinary motor-car traffic would, in the opinion of the Board, be especially dangerous.)
