HC Deb 02 November 1908 vol 195 cc759-60
MR. CARLILE

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War what number of rounds can be fired from the Lee-Enfield rifle before the bullets lose 100 feet in velocity.

MR. HALDANE

The number varies with each barrel, but the average may be taken at 2,500 rounds. In some barrels as many as 5,000 rounds have been fired before the velocity dropped 100 feet, and in others it dropped after 2,000 rounds.
