GORDON (Londonderry, S.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland what 1285 is the amount expended annually on the navigation works on the Lower Bann; what is the amount of annual receipts in respect of this navigation; whether those interested in the drainage of the areas flooded by the Lower Bann have submitted a scheme for the drainage of these areas, undertaking to repay the cost of such drainage; and, if so, will he state why such scheme has not been adopted and carried out.
§ MR. BIRRELLThe Local Taxation Returns show that for the year ending 31st March, 1907, the receipts of the Lower Bann Navigation Trustees were £1,264, and the expenditure £1,242. The expenditure for each of the two preceding years was slightly in excess of the receipts. I am not aware that any such scheme as is mentioned in the Question has been submitted.
§ MR. GORDONWill any scheme brought forward be considered?
§ MR. BIRRELLI am most anxious that any scheme with regard to either the Bann or the Barrow should be carefully considered.
