HC Deb 28 May 1908 vol 189 cc1269-70
MR. BELL (Derby)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the Midland Railway Company are dismissing several men who have been elected by their fellows either as deputations to represent their grievances to the directors or on conciliation boards, in accordance with the terms of settlement on 6th November, 1907; whether he is aware that a platelayer at Kentish Town, named W. Charter, a member of a deputation to represent that class, has been served with notice of dismissal from his employment, and for presiding at a meeting held on Sunday last to protest against this a passenger-guard, named W. Carter, has been suspended; and whether, in view of the terms of settlement of the agitation last year, he will take steps to prevent such conduct on the part of the officials of that company.

MR. CHURCHILL

I am in communication with the Midland Railway Company in this matter and will inform my hon. friend of the result.
