HC Deb 28 May 1908 vol 189 cc1240-1
MR. G. GOOCH (Bath)

To ask Mr. Attorney-General whether he will endeavour to secure a change in the law by which costs incurred in an appeal to Quarter Sessions from a conviction by a magistrate, involving imprisonment up to one month, shall be paid in whole or in part from public funds in cases where the conviction is quashed and the innocence of the appellant is established.

(Answered by Sir William Robson). The suggestion made in this Question is one that involves a considerable charge on the public revenue, as to which I could not venture to pledge the Government, but the point will be considered.
