HC Deb 27 May 1908 vol 189 cc1095-6
MR. SUMMERBELL (Sunderland)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he can give the date of the appointment and re-appointment of each of the present unofficial members of the Legislative Council of the Colony of Trinidad; and whether it is the intention of the Government to continue their re-appointment as often as their term of office expires, or that a change will be instituted in the direction of having at least one Member on the council drawn from the ranks of the working class.

COLONEL SEELY

The information shall be furnished to the hon. Member. With regard to the second part of the Question, the Secretary of State cannot make any statement as to the future re-appointment of present unofficial members of the council on the expiration of their terms of office, and fears that any direct representation of the working class in the council would scarcely be practicable. My noble friend will, however, consult the officer administering the Government of the Colony on this point.
