HC Deb 27 May 1908 vol 189 c1105
MR. CLYNES

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been drawn to the statement made at the last meeting of the Lancashire County Council that the estimates of the Main Roads Committee had increased by £13,152 owing, in part, to the heavy motor-car traffic; whether he has any information of similar increases in other parts of the country; and whether he can take any steps in support of measures to compel the owners of pleasure motor cars to pay towards the costs and repairs which they occasion.

MR. MASTERMAN

The attention of my right hon. friend has not been drawn to the particular statement referred to, but he has received communications from other sources respecting an increase in the cost of road maintenance said to be due in part to motor traffic. The point raised in the last part of the Question will receive consideration.
