HC Deb 26 May 1908 vol 189 cc918-9
MR. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick)

To ask the Prime Minister if he will state what is the period of annual leave authorised for the upper division clerks of each class, and for staff officers in the Inland Revenue, Customs, Post Office, and Treasury.

(Answered by Mr. Hobhouse.) The ordinary annual leave of officers drawing salary or placed on scales of salary in excess of those of the Second Division is fixed by Clause 7 of the Order in Council of 15th August, 1890, at not exceeding thirty-six week days during each of their first ten years of service and forty-eight week days thereafter, exclusive in both cases of Christmas Day, Good Friday, the King's birthday, and (subject to the convenience of the public service) the four Bank Holidays. The leave of staff officers in the Departments referred to varies from twenty-one to forty-eight days according to salary and length of service, but I understand that the whole question of leave in the Post Office is now under consideration.
