HC Deb 18 May 1908 vol 188 c1599
MR. BOTTOMLEY (Hackney, S.)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he can state approximately the number of widows in the United Kingdom of seventy years of age and upwards.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) I cannot state the precise number of widows of seventy years of age and upwards in the United Kingdom at the present time; but, on the inform Hon afforded by the Census Reports of 1001, it may be estimated that the number was in that year approximately 436,000.
