HC Deb 18 May 1908 vol 188 c1631
MR. SHEEHAN

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Estates Commissioners, through any of their inspectors, have investigated the complaints of fraudulent treatment made by John J. O'Mahony, a purchasing tenant on the estate of J. D. Cramer Roberts, Inniscarra, county Cork; whether this tenant has been processed for a year's interest which he claims to be excessive and unwarranted; are any concessions to be made to him as a result of the investigations of the Commissioners; and whether he will consider the advisability of putting a stay to legal proceedings in the meantime.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The Estates Commissioners have fully investigated the complaints made by O'Mahony, and have decided that they are without foundation. The purchase money has accordingly been advanced, and the holding vested in O'Mahony. The Commissioners have instituted legal proceedings against O'Mahony for the recovery of interest in lieu of rent for the year ending 1st November last. These proceedings cannot be stayed.
