HC Deb 14 May 1908 vol 188 c1352
MR. HAYDEN (Roscommon, S.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury will the reproductions of the Down Survey barony maps which have recently been prepared by the Irish Ordnance Survey Office be exact copies of Sir William Petty's maps made for the Commonwealth in 1654–1656, and at present in the Record Office, Dublin; can he state when the maps will be issued; and will they be distributed as Parliamentary Papers.

Sir EDWARD STRACHEY

Perhaps my hon. friend will allow me to reply to his Question. The maps to which he refers have been published and can now be obtained from the Ordnance Survey agents in Ireland. They were prepared photographically from Sir William Petty's originals, which are now in the National Library at Paris, and they portray in black and white only the colours of the originals. It is not proposed to issue them as Parliamentary Papers.
