HC Deb 13 May 1908 vol 188 c1117
MR. MOND (Chester)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the total number of new licences granted since the Licensing Act of 1904; what number of such licences were granted for one year and what number for seven years; what was the amount received for monopoly value for such licences; and what was the average amount received for the monopoly value of the new licences granted annually.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) All available information on this subject will be found in Table IV. of the volumes of Licensing Statistics for the years 1905, 1906, and 1907. It appears that 165 new licences were granted and confirmed under the provisions of Section 4 of The Licensing Act, 1904. Of these, 114 were granted for one year and 10 were granted for terms of seven years. As will be seen on reference to the Tables, the amounts and the conditions of the payments taken on account of monopoly value vary so much that they cannot usefully be totalled or averaged in the manner suggested in the last two paragraphs of the Question.
