HC Deb 12 May 1908 vol 188 c926
MR. CHIOZZA MONEY

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that, at the end of the financial year 1908–9, the total dead-weight Debt of the United Kingdom will amount to £696,000,000, or £68,000,000 more than at the close of the financial year 1898–9; and whether, in view of this fact, he can give a definite assurance that the present appropriation to the National Debt services of only £28,000,000 per annum will not be decreased in the immediate future.

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

I am acquainted with the facts, which were fully stated in the Budget speech of my right hon. friend on Thursday last. As regards the latter part of the Question, I can add nothing to what my right hon. friend said on that occasion.
