HC Deb 12 May 1908 vol 188 cc914-5
MR. O'GRADY (Leeds, E.)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that, in consequence of a literary society in Lahore announcing a lecture on Man, the index of creation, twenty-five armed constables were sent to the lecture hall, which only holds fifty people; and whether, in view of this act on the part of the authorities, steps will be taken so that in future the people attending such meetings shall not be irritated by the presence of armed force.

MR. BUCHANAN

The Secretary of State has no information as to the meeting in Question. If the hon. Member can give me fuller details, he will consider whether any action is desirable.
