HC Deb 11 May 1908 vol 188 c689
MR. FFRENCH (Wexford, S.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that, owing to the Returns required by the Vice-Regal Commission on Poor Law for the House of Commons, a vast amount of labour was thrown on the clerk, master, and relieving officers of each union; and whether the Government will allow anything in payment for those services.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) Several boards of guardians have passed resolutions proposing to remunerate their officials for the extra duty cast On them in the preparation of the Return in question, and asking for the sanction of the Local Government Board to such proposals. The Board have replied that when the Returns have been examined they will be prepared to consider favourably the requests of the guardians.
