HC Deb 11 May 1908 vol 188 cc736-7
MR. JOHN REDMOND

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury if he can state on what date he proposes to lay upon the Table of the House the correspondence which has passed on the subject of the use of the Carlisle Pier, Kingstown, by vessels other than the mail steamers, between the Treasury and the Commissioners of Public Works, the Commissioners of Kingstown Harbour, the London and North Western Railway Company, and the City of Dublin Steam Packet Company, and any other steamboat company or Government Department, between 1st January, 1907, and the present date.

MR. HOBHOUSE

All the correspondence on this subject which can be published has been laid already and was issued to hon. Members on the 8th instant.

MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN

Why have not the other Papers promised by the Postmaster-General been given?

MR. HOBHOUSE

I am not aware any others were promised.

MR. JOHN REDMOND

It is stated in one of the letters that further communication will be made to the London and North Western Company on the subject of the dues to be paid by the company. That further communication is not included in the Papers, however.

MR. HOBHOUSE

I must ask for notice.

MR. T. M. HEALY (Louth, N.)

What is the reason why the Government are afraid to produce these letters?

[No Answer was returned.]

MR. DELANY (Queen's Co., Ossory)

Is it not the fact that the London and North Western Company have, since they got access to Carlisle Pier, raised their rates considerably?

MR. HOBHOUSE

I must have notice of that.
