To ask the Secretary for Scotland what was the total amount of the balances remaining in the hands of the Scottish Education Department, as the end of the financial year ending 31st March, 1908, of the sums paid to them prior to that date under Sub-section 2 of Section 2 of The Local Taxation (Customs and Excise) Act, 1890, and Sub-section 6 of Section 2 of The Education and Local Taxation Account (Scotland) Act, 1892, referred to in Clause 17 of the Education (Scotland) Bill.

(Answered by Mr. Sinclair.) The balance of the sums received under the Acts cited, as at 31st March, 1908, was £140,148 14s. 10d.
