HC Deb 11 May 1908 vol 188 c740
MR. SMEATON (Stirlingshire)

I beg to ask the Prime Minister if he can now say whether there will be an autumn session, and from what date it is likely to commence.

MR. ASQUITH

I think that an autumn session is inevitable; but I cannot at present forecast the date at which it is likely to commence. I am glad, judging from the cheers of hon. Gentlemen opposite, that they approve this.

MR. WILLIAM REDMOND

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind the recommendations of the Select Committee to allow the House to adjourn early in the summer?

MR. ASQUITH

My sympathies are entirely with the hon. Member.

EARL WINTERTON

In view of the need by hon. Members to make engagements some time before, will the right hon. Gentleman consider the advisability of making an announcement by Whit-suntide?

MR. ASQUITH

I will not say by Whitsuntide, but I will consult the general convenience.
