HC Deb 06 May 1908 vol 188 c255
CAPTAIN CRAIG

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland how many cases of firing outrages have been reported to the Dublin Castle authorities or the police during the current year, the number of arrests made, and sentences passed.

MR. BIRRELL

During the current year eighty-sixty offences in which firing took place have been reported, and in connection with them twenty-six persons were arrested. Seven of the persons were discharged at petty sessions and three are still on remand. Thirteen have been returned for trial and the cases are pending. At Quarter Sessions one person was sentenced to three months imprisonment, and at Assizes one person was sentenced to two months imprisonment, and another was found unfit to plead and was sent to a lunatic asylum.
