HC Deb 05 May 1908 vol 188 cc35-6
MR. J. DEVLIN (Belfast, W.)

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he would state the total amount of money on deposit in Irish Savings Banks, apart from the Post Office, on the latest date at which information is available, and the amounts in detail of such deposits invested in Government funds and in private concerns.

(Answered by Mr. Lloyd-Georqe.) The amount due to depositors in the Irish Trustee Savings Banks on 20th November, 1907, was £2,513,243 18s. 8d. The deposits invested with the National Debt Commissioners are applied in the purchase of Government securities, but no particular securities are ear-marked as applicable to Ireland. The National Debt Commissioners hold no securities in private concerns.
