HC Deb 23 March 1908 vol 186 c1101
MR. WILLIAM ABRAHAM (Cork County, N. E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if he will state the number of unoccupied evicted holdings in Cork county to which the compulsory powers contained in the Evicted Tenants Act of 1907 apply; and in how many cases do the Estates Commissioners hope to effect the reinstatement of the former tenants, during the approaching spring, by the exercise of these powers, or in any other way.

MR. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners are inquiring into the cases of all approved applicants whose holdings are in the occupation of landlords, with a view to putting in force the compulsory provisions of the Evicted Tenants Act in the cases which come within such provisions. The Commissioners are unable to state the number of cases to which their compulsory powers may be applicable, as this will depend upon the result of the judicial proceedings to be taken in each case. The periodical return under Section 3 of the Act will give, by counties, the number of evicted tenants reinstated.
