HC Deb 19 March 1908 vol 186 c785
MR. FENWICK (Northumberland, Wansbeck)

I beg to ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, whether he has received a memorial from the fishermen of New-biggin-by-the-Sea, asking for an inquiry into the condition of the fishing industry on the North-east Coast; whether he is aware of the poverty and distress existing among the line fishermen and their dependants along the North-east Coast; and, if so, can he state whether the Government intend to grant such an inquiry, or to take any steps to relieve the existing distress.

MR. J. A. PEASE (: for Sir EDWARD STRACHEY) Essex, Saffron Walden

The Board have received from the Board of Trade a communication on the subject to which my hon. friend refers. Inquiry will be made into the matter without delay.
