I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether he will favourably consider the question of an increased grant being given to contracted-out schools in London, in view of the greater cost per child in elementary schools in London as compared with the rest of England and Wales.

MR. MCKENNA

I regret I can only renew the answer which I have previously given that questions of this nature can be more conveniently dealt with in debate on the Bill, when discussion of the reply is possible.

But will the right hon. Gentleman consider the advisability of fixing a definite proportion which will prevent the penalising of contracted-out schools in the Metropolis's
