HC Deb 17 March 1908 vol 186 cc406-7
VISCOUNT CASTLEREAGH

On behalf of the hon. Member for West Bristol, I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether officers in His Majesty's Auxiliary Forces may be entitled to the grant, hitherto refused them, for passing the examination as Army interpreters in foreign languages.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. HALDANE,) Haddington

The Royal Warrant for pay only permits the grant of money to officers of the Regular Forces. I am afraid that I cannot undertake to make the concession suggested in the Question. The funds at present at my disposal are hardly sufficient to meet the requirements of the Regular Army in this respect.
