§ MR. ARMITAGE (Leeds, Central)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department for what period the members of the alien immigration boards are appointed.
§ THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL,) Yorkshire, ClevelandThe appointments of members of immigration boards under the Aliens Act, 1905, stand for as long as the persons appointed are willing and able to afford their services in that capacity.
§ MR. ARMITAGEI beg to ask the Chief Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps have been taken for the formation of advisory committees to assist alien immigration boards, as promised by him on 5th March, 1906.
§ MR. HERBERT SAMUELMy right hon. friend gave no promise in this matter. The question of arranging for the establishment of such advisory committees, for which there is no provision in the Act, was at one time considered, but after further experience of the working of the Act my right hon. friend does not think them necessary.
