§ MR. POWER (Waterford, E.)I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if any, and, if so, can he now state what decision, has been arrived at with regard to the status and conditions of employment of clerks to surveyors of taxes, as a result of the deputation which waited on him last year on the subject.
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. ASQUITH,) Fifeshire, E.I regret that, as I explained the other day to the hon. Member for East Leeds, who has interested himself in the case of these clerks, the inquiry has taken longer than I anticipated; but I hope to be very shortly in a position to arrive at a decision.
