HC Deb 12 March 1908 vol 185 cc1741-2
EARL WINTERTON

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies whether there is any difference (as regards the amount of accommodation allowed per head and the form of building) between the compounds occupied by the Kaffirs and Chinese, respectively, who are at present working in the mines in the Transvaal.

MR. CHURCHILL

Cd. Paper 2786 will afford the noble Lord very full information on this and many kindred matters connected with the mining industry upon the Witwatersrand.

EARL WINTERTON

Are we to understand that there is no distinction; between the two classes of compounds, whether occupied by natives or Chinese?

MR. CHURCHILL

It would be better for the noble Lord to have recourse to the authorities to which I have referred him before putting any further Questions.
