HC Deb 10 March 1908 vol 185 cc1314-5
MR. LANE-FOX

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that last year the West Riding local education authority refused to confirm the appointment of Mr. O. B. Milnes as head teacher to the Royston School on educational grounds; whether the Board confirmed such refusal; whether he has now been appointed head teacher to a larger school at a higher salary; and whether the Board have confirmed such appointment.

MR. McKENNA

The Board decided that the grounds upon which the local education authority refused their consent to Mr. Milnes' appointment to the headmastership of the Royston School were educational. They have received no notification of his appointment to another school, and such appointment would not require the board's confirmation.

MR. LANE-FOX

Has the right hon. Gentleman refused the request of the managers to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances of the case.

MR. McKENNA

If the hon. Member is referring to something which occurred months ago, I must ask for notice. I shall have to refresh my memory.

MR. RAWLINSON (Cambridge University)

Will the right hon. Gentleman make further inquiries into the subject-matter of the Question?

MR. McKENNA

If the hon. Gentleman wishes I will do so.
