HC Deb 09 March 1908 vol 185 cc1116-7
MR. BENNETT (Oxfordshire, Woodstock)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the fact that the Royal Commission on Local Taxation recommended that the maintenance of our main roads should be a national charge, he can hold out any hopes that this question will receive the consideration of His Majesty's Government at an early date.

MR. JOHN BURNS

The Government have promised to consider this matter when the general question of local taxation comes to be dealt with. I cannot, however, hold out any expectation of legislation on the subject being introduced during the present session.
