HC Deb 05 March 1908 vol 185 c894
Mr. C. MACVEIGH (Donegal, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether the attention of the Estates Commissioners has been called to the case of John Gorman, who was evicted from his holding on the Gledstane estate, Coora-dooey, near Convoy, county Donegal; whether he is aware that the farm is now occupied by Mr. Russell, who does not live on it, as a grazing farm, and is willing to give it up if he is compensated; whether he is aware that agreements were signed to purchase the estate two years ago, and an inspector has visited the estate and inspected the evicted farm; and whether he can state when the sale will be completed, and if Russell will be compensated and Gorman reinstated.

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Com-missioners have inquired into the claim of John Gorman who was evicted from a holding on the Campbell and Gledstane estate, county Donegal, and have noted his name as being suitable to work a holding. The Commissioners are aware that Gorman's former holding is now occupied by Mr. Russell, and the matter has been referred to an inspector with a view to providing Gorman with a holding. I have no information as to whether Mr. Russell is willing to accept compensation. No purchase agreements have been lodged in connection with the Gledstane estate, county Donegal.
