HC Deb 04 March 1908 vol 185 c676
* MR. REES

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is proposed to make Welsh a subject of examination for appointment to the post of mining inspector in Wales.

MR. GLADSTONE

The answer is in the negative. No difficulty has been experienced hitherto in ascertaining whether an inspector, whom the Home Office proposed to send to a Welsh district, is acquainted with the Welsh language.
