§ MR. CARLILEOn behalf of the noble Lord the Member for East Marylebone I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether the teaching of the Apostles Creed would be religious instruction in accordance with the London County Council syllabus within the meaning of the Third Schedule to the Education Bill.
§ MR. MCKENNAI must refer the hon. Member to the syllabus in question, which is in great detail. As I stated yesterday in reply to my friend the hon. Member for North Lambeth, I think it is inadvisable to attempt interpretations 536 of the Education Bill which can only be conveniently dealt with in debate.
§ MR. CARLILEIs the Apostles' Creed included in that syllabus?
§ MR. McKENNAsaid the hon. Gentlman had as good an opportunity of ascertaining that as he had.
§ MR. CARLILEIs not the right hon. Gentleman prepared to give information asked for by hon. Members?
§ MR. MCKENNAI am perfectly willing to give any information which hon. Members have not already at their disposal, but in this case the hon. Member can get it as freely as I can.
§ MR. CARLILEWill the right hon. Gentleman issue a copy of this so-called syllabus?
§ MR. MCKENNAIt is already issued.
§ MR. CARLILErose again.
§ * MR. SPEAKERThe hon. Member had better put any further Question on the Paper.
§ MR. WILLIAM REDMOND (Clare, E.)I will show you the way to the library.
