HC Deb 03 March 1908 vol 185 cc523-4
MR. COURTHOPE

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any steps are being taken to protect the big game in the districts traversed by the Uganda Railway from extermination by travellers.

MR. CHURCHILL

There already exists in the neighbourhood of the Uganda Railway a large game reserve which is considered to be amply sufficient for the protection of the big game in that district. Indeed, Sir, the purport of the complaints which are generally made by settlers in East Africa and Uganda is that the Government show too much rather than too little care for the preservation of the larger fauna.
