HC Deb 03 March 1908 vol 185 cc520-1
MR. O'GRADY

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that the belief is held by the Mahomedans in Eastern Bengal that magistrates will give an order, if requested, to loot and assault Hindus; and, having regard to the danger of such belief, whether he will advise or instruct the Lieutenant-Governor to make inquiries and, if necessary, to take steps to make the position of the law and the Government clear in this matter.

MR. MORLEY

I am not aware o f any such belief, and I see no sufficient reason to take action as suggested.
