HC Deb 02 March 1908 vol 185 cc344-5
MR. REES (Montgomery Boroughs)

I beg to ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, what steps are being taken to prevent the spread of black scab amongst potatoes in North Wales.

MR. WHITELEY (for Sir EDWARD STRACHEY)

The Board of Agriculture have in preparation an Order dealing inter alia with this disease, and they hope that it may be found possible to issue it at an early date. I shall be happy to send a copy of it to my hon. friend as soon as it has been approved and printed. A leaflet on the subject both in English and Welsh has been widely distributed, and we are arranging for a further circulation of it in North Wales.

MR. REES

Is the Department aware that meantime the disease has reached North Wales?

MR. WHITELEY

If the hon. Member has any information he can place at the disposal of the Department I am sure it would be welcomed.
