HC Deb 29 June 1908 vol 191 c329
MR. J. P. FARRELL (Longford, N.)

To ask the Secretary of State for War whether, having regard to the fact that John Gillen, of Longford, No. 999 6th company, 1st battalion, Royal Irish Rifles, who lost his health in India, is now in a chronic state of ill-health and poverty in Longford, he will ask the Patriotic Fund Commissioners to make him a small grant to help him in his old age.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) I regret that I cannot undertake to recommend this case to the Royal Patriotic Fund Corporation, as the man is not eligible for assistance from any of the funds administered by that body. He had less than three years' service and rendered no war service.
