FARRELLTo ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will grant an inquiry into the circumstances attending the discharge of the two children Cuffe from industrial schools, and their transference to the workhouse of Granard as pauper children; and will he say what steps have been taken to secure that the treatment of these poor children shall tend to make them good and useful citizens in their after life.
(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) I would refer the hon. Member to the Answer which was given to his Question on this subject on the 24th instant. My predecessor ordered the discharge of the children from industrial schools under the powers vested in him by statute and, so far as I am aware, I have no power to re-open the matter by means of an inquiry or otherwise.
