HC Deb 02 June 1908 vol 189 cc1696-7
MR. ARNOLD-FORSTER (Croydon)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether during the past twelve months the Army Council have asked for the co-operation of the Board of Admiralty in carrying out joint naval and military exercises; whether the application has been refused; if so, whether it has been refused on the grounds of economy; and whether, in view of the great importance of such joint manœuvres, and of the fact that this country cannot engage in any war in which the co-operation of the Army and Navy will not be necessary, the Board of Admiralty will consider their decision and will co-operate effectively with the Army Council.

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. MCKENNA,) Monmouthshire, N.

During the past twelve months, no application from the War Office for the co-operation of the Admiralty in carrying out joint naval and military exercises has been refused. The Admiralty recognise the importance of cooperation between the Army and Navy, and many joint exercises have been carried out during the past twelve months.

MR. ARTHUR LEE (Hampshire, Fareham)

Will joint exercises of this nature take place during the coming summer?

MR. MCKENNA

asked for notice of the Question.
