HC Deb 01 June 1908 vol 189 cc1513-4
MR. MOND (Chester)

To ask the Postmaster-General whether his attention has been drawn to the new regulations which have been issued regarding camp allowance and wages of postal employees enlisting in the Territorial Army, whereby they receive their full wages during camp training, but have themselves to pay for the wages of a substitute, whereas formerly no wages were paid during the period of training, but the Post Office paid the substitute; whether he is aware that the wages demanded by the substitute are higher than the regular pay, thereby causing a loss to the postal employees; and, in view of these facts, whether he can see his way to alter the new regulations and revert to the former practice.

(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) I am in communication with the Treasury on the subject of regulations which they have laid down in regard to granting leave to civil servants who are members of the Territorial Army to enable them to attend training in camp. I hope to receive the reply shortly.
