HC Deb 01 June 1908 vol 189 c1566
MR. WARDLE

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether he will call the attention of local education authorities to the fact that, under the Education (Provision of Meals) Act, the machinery necessary for the provision of food to the children may be paid for out of the ordinary education rate, and that the whole of the halfpenny rate authorised by the Act may be devoted to the supply of food alone.

MR. RUNCIMAN

I think the Circular issued by the Board shortly after the passing of the Act makes it clear that the limitation of expenditure to the produce of a halfpenny rate applies only to the expenditure on the provision of food.
